Philosophy

Can you imagine a life pain free? A life where you have enough energy to live life to the fullest? My goal for all my patients is to discover a new life that enables them to live life to the fullest.

It is my belief that there are three tiers of health. The lowest is when we are sick. This is where many in the Western world will seek out treatment. The middle tier is a harmonizing state. This is where we may fluctuate from feeling uncomfortable or "off" but not enough that we seek treatment. However this is the stage that treatment is most needed. At this stage, with acupuncture and lifestyle changes, true wellness can occur. The highest tier is the illuminous stage. This is where your health is at its peak. Together, using acupuncture, nutrition and herbs, Starry will work with each patient to bring your to illuminous health.

You are unique and your ailments are unique to you. Chinese medicine DOES NOT treat everyone the same. In contrast to Western medicine, Chinese medicine understands that there are multiple reasons as to why you may have a condition such as allergies, for example.  Therefore  we do not treat all allergies the same and treatment protocol differs from patient to patient.

Each of my patients is an individual. My background in exercise and  nutrition  help me to help you attain your goal.  I treat children, teens, adults and seniors.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy - known as Qi - moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians (channels) beneath the skin.

Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities - Yin and Yang - and when these become unbalanced, illness may result. By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy, an acupuncturist can stimulate the body's own healing response and help restore its natural balance. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and trauma. The principal aim of acupuncture in treating the whole person is to recover the equilibrium between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual.

The needles used to stimulate acupuncture points are solid-state stainless steel, pre-sterilized, and disposable. They are NOT hypodermic needles. They are very slender, about the thickness of two human hairs.

Most insertions are made beneath the skin's surface and sensations vary from person to person. Sometimes a person feels nothing at all, or perhaps a dull, momentary ache or tingling sensation. The fewest number of needles are used in each treatment. Sometimes, a nurturing herb called moxa is used in treatment.
